Mother, sweet mother of mine..

Mother, sweet mother of mine..

Are parents more sacred than God?

I have such an efficient mother and uncle that I don’t find any time to worship God throughout the day. My mother is like a baby and she takes up a lot of my time through out the day. Is so much attachment actually detrimental to me and my family? Should I learn to live without her permanently? I think it would be best to reduce my time spent with her so that she doesn’t rely on me for nearly everything. But on the other hand, we all know that our parents are only next to God in all our lives and living.

She always wants to help me out in my daily chores, and she also wants to accompany me on my tours and travels extensively. She is already 78 years of age; we are just praying that she makes it to the golden number 100 just like one of her friends has reached recently.

My mum is a principal together with a chef- she is a banker and also a manager most efficiently. She is all these roles all rolled into one most happily. The last time she attended a book fair where my books were displayed, she just couldn’t contain her pride and happiness.

My mum taught me how to swim, how to hike, how to be a devout worshipper of God without being a devotee with blind faith. She taught me the importance of reading and writing- she also exposed me to Bharatnatyam and now, she wants me to travel with and to our Guruji from Chinmaya Mission. My mum had a troubled marriage so she knows exactly how things can go wrong in a relationship and what all crap a woman has to endure to survive fruitfully.

My mum always stresses that any failure or underdog is always a lot better than any person who has already accomplished everything. She has the utmost respect for all our househelps, tailors and drivers most importantly. She also believes that to pursue any sport in life is a very important thing because sport helps one to face and accept loss and defeat quite squarely.

I find that walking in her footsteps has brought me success almost miraculously. She has been a great mother, a great wife, an obedient daughter, a caring sister and she also created history by making it to the heats of the Olympics in her teens.

I don’t know about how you feel about your parents, but I certainly would not like to give up, share or part with my mum under any circumstances. Between God, Lord Shiv and my mum, my mum would win my favour most certainly.
