The Vignan Bhairav Tantra
The name of the book has the word science (Vigyan) in it, showing to the reader that the entire process of self-realization is a science more than anything else.
This is the greatest dialogue you can get on the relationship between Shiv as Bhairav and Parvati. He teaches her the detailed process of how to meditate and attain self-realization.
Hinduism sees the realization of the Self as the ultimate goal of an individual. And this text just shows us how exactly does self-realization take place. In this text, Shiv is revealed to have been the Ultimate consciousness as well as the total zero or Zen in meditation.
Shiv, as Bhiarav, describes various methods and states for the aspirant to achieve, the aspirant becomes Shiv himself and thus, immortal.
Most texts on Self-realization are based on the principle of Advaita or Non duality, but not this text that the Kashmiri Hindus follow to this date ardently. It is a text steeped in duality and it involves some Yogic postures and Asanas as well as some Mudras and chantings.
Here, the disciple of Shiv is none other than Parvati and all the literature in the world can’t stand up to the numerous finer nuances of the practice of self-redemption, self-salvation or one own’s purification as described in this wonderful text on duality.
Read this traditional text as an advanced method towards Ultimate peace and self-realization and self fulfilment. It is an advanced text and promises to be true to its reputation of being the best dialogue on the dual Brahman and its methodology.
