The Vigyan Bhairav Tantra
This is a fabulous Hindu text meant for the aspirant’s mental evolution and realization of the state of non-duality. It comes from none other than Shiva himself who has taken on the form of a snake God Bhairav for this text exclusively. Shiva and Parvati are in a dialogue in which Shiv explains every single detail to his consort Parvati.
From breath control, to practicing various postures and mudras, to performing several mental and physical Yogic exercises, Bhairav has described virtually everything that a devout follower needs to know.
This book is steeped in Kashmir’s Shaivism- one branch of the Hindu Shaivaite theosophy. The steps are easy and lucid and can be practiced by virtually anybody who has the mental and intellectual capacity to grasp the entire Shaivic ideology.
Bhairav goes onto to elucidate and share all that he knows about a theosophy that he champions ever so skillfully.
The plane of practice in this book is not physical, not mental but pranic and intellectual and the experience of this wonderful exposition can put you in a happy place permanently.
The entire text is about how to centre one’s awareness for which one has to transcend all kinds of limiting principles and practices knowingly.
The book is fascinating and inspirational even if you don’t understand it wholly.
Shiv is such a great God that no individual who has come in contact with him will remain the same in ignorance and falsity. He inspires you to achieve the state that he himself revels in.
In the end you will realise that you love Shiv more than anything else in the world and he will develop you into the best version of yourself entirely.
The practices of chanting, meditation, Yogic poses, pranayama, awareness, knowledge- all these are a few of his favorite things.
The name Vigyan Bhairav informs us that the entire text is of a scientific temperament- it deals with a practical science- something that can be achieved and attained knowingly.
Once you know this, you will never need to know anything else externally. The science is internal and holistic- the prized possession of a few fortunate and exceptional beings.
