I have done so many things in my life and I feel that I need to talk about my businesses also right away today most happily.
Being an entrepreneur is fantastic- you have a lot of time for yourself, you love what you do, you can hire and fire as per your requirements, and you can scale up or scale down your business as you desire personally. The best part is that you can keep away from poor people- something that I have been struggling to do all my life rather unconvincingly.
Way back in 2009, I started my artistic business in which I invested some money to showcase some artwork of mine and also of my employees. All I had to do was to create some paintings and sell them at the Kala Ghoda Fair- something that I undertook alone after all my partners failed to show up at the last moment unfortunately. I thoroughly enjoyed getting my stall up despite not being able to sell anything beyond paper bags at my stall rather solemnly. My products were very unique- I had papier mache pieces, glass paintings, paintings on transparencies, mosaic and tile work on wood panels, metallic artwork, and the usual water and oil paintings that were really beautifully done by my 2 talented employees, Chaitali and Vaishali.
The stall was put up daily for 5 days and I got so many enquiries. I am still open to painting on my own, and I may rejoin the Kala Ghoda fair anytime that I wish because I know the conductors personally. I really believe that creative work is a lot more rewarding than the usual jobs that people do just because they are popular and bring in a lot of money. As an artwork collector and displayer, selling pieces of art that you enjoy is a delightfully creative and happy experience.
My 2nd entrepreneurial experience was recently when I started writing and selling my books professionally. As of now, I am a published book author having sold several all of my books- a job that I claim to have done alone happily.
My 1st book manuscript got rejected by several publishers until I sent it to Landmark Publishing. They introduced me to their Become Shakespeare project, and I have been publishing books with them annually. This is still my 2nd mode of income- but my preferred business of interest rather uniquely. I have written 5 books and am working on the 6th one currently. I have also been contacted by several retailers who have displayed and sold all my books at numerous book fairs both domestically and internationally.
