So, the Ganpati festive spirit has spread all over our Mumbai city most auspiciously. Most Maharashtrian households are ready to host him, worship him and seek out his blessings for their careers, their finances and nearly every aspect of their lives and living rather lovingly. He is worshipped all over the city with every lane and bylane hosting giant sculptures of him with a lot of Hindu pride and a lot of holy Maharashtrian camaraderie.
We all do worship our Gods and Goddesses a lot, but it is our duty to know from when and how they originated traditionally. The Hindu deity over wealth and wisdom received his elephant head from none other than an Asur, Gajasur, but Shiv is known to control all his Asuric children with an iron fist most thankfully- while Kartik and Ashok Sundari are not considered Asurs typically, Shiv’s son Jalandhar is the most infamous Asuric force recognized as a demon in the Hindu faith if we look at the whole picture objectively. This obviously doesn’t mean that all people good in Math and Finance are Asuric, but even our religion’s most educated females are looked upon with a lot of suspicion and jealousy.
The mostly cheerful but rather bombastic Hindu festival is celebrated for 10 whole particularly noisy days but you can’t help but feel very safe and protected just by the presence of the popular deity in nearly every lane and household of the city fortunately.
What is Ganesh most famous for- well, he wrote the Mahabharat that includes the Bhagvat Geeta, he killed several Asuric and totally demonic entities, he is known for all his wit and wisdom wholesomely, and he is inherently very devoted to his parents and his family comprising of his 2 wives Riddhi and Siddhi. His elephant head proves his inherent intelligence, his large ears show that he is a good listener, his small eyes depict his intense focus and concentration and his pot belly belies his love for life and also for his appetite for good food and healthy eating habits-
So, all you great readers of mine, please do spend the next 10 to 15 days in the pursuit of knowledge and wisdom and don’t forget to remember and chant all the Lord’s hymns and prayers to invoke all his special favors for you and all your favorite ones with all possible devotion and submission to him with a whole lot of pomp and cheerfulness thankfully.
Thanks for the image of Lord Ganpati, Amritapuri..
